My love language...

After posting the other day about my husband's truly pathetic gift giving abilities, I thought I'd better mention some of the things that he does really well - just to balance things out.

I'm sure many of you have heard of Gary Chapman's The Five Love Languages. If you haven't heard of them, they are:

  • words of affirmation
  • quality time
  • gifts
  • acts of service
  • physical touch
So which is your love language? All of them, you say? Well, me too, but if you had to pick just one.....

It's a good thing that my love language isn't gifts. In fact, luckily for me, gifts rank right down there at the bottom of my list. My #1 would definitely have to be acts of service, and again, as luck would have it, that's the one my husband is best at.

Case in point:

One of my least favorite things is having a sink full of dirty dishes and a dishwasher full of clean dishes. If I were a halfway adequate housekeeper (which, less face it, I will never be) I wouldn't let the kitchen get to such a state, but several times a week, this is how things stand. I will come home from ___________ (insert activity here - tonight it was pack meeting. last night it was cooking group, etc....) and finally get the kids to bed and be wanting to go to bed myself, and am stuck with a sink full of dirty dishes, but can't do them until I put the clean ones away. So I sigh and trudge over to the dishwasher to open it and get to work. And about half the time, expecting to open the dishwasher to a full load, I open it and this is what I find.......

Isn't that a beautiful sight? And I know my lovely husband has come along when I wasn't looking, WITHOUT EVEN BEING ASKED, and emptied the dishwasher for me.

It gets me every time. And I'm sure that the reason he keeps doing it is, #1, he's a really good guy, and #2, I'm very enthusiastic in my expressions of appreciation each and every time. And tonight, when I thanked him, he said, "Oh, and by the way, I put the clothes in the dryer, too."

Be still my heart.

Oh, and did I mention that he's cute?
